Dear Friend,

Namaste!

I would like to give you a warm welcome to my website and introduce you to each web page, which I hope will be both helpful and enjoyable.

New to Yoga Practice

Come & Try a Class

Classes can be joined at any time throughout the term

Sometimes it can take us so long to sign up for a class and make that commitment to come. Why? has a multitude of different answers but all too frequently perhaps an underlying anxiety as to, Am I going to like it? What happens if everyone else is very good and I find it difficult? Perhaps I will leave it until next term and so it goes on.

Yoga teaches us so much about focus and calming the mind. It helps us to develop body awareness, draw out and use our inner strength allowing us to make that next very necessary step on our journey.

So come and join a class today. Enjoy and derive many benefits. I look forward to meeting you.

Warmest greetings,

Sarah

Why Yoga?

In essence this page introduces you to the difference between Yoga and other exercise classes. The importance of being healthy and feeling good beyond the benefits of daily physical exercise, which is a very integral part.

Yoga offers us so much more, practical techniques for stilling the activity and continual chatter of the mind, how to breathe well, learning  how to relax the body, freeing ourselves of stress and tension, each contributing to us having more vital energy, feeling more alive and yet relaxed, which we can channel into our every day life and experience being 'really healthy.'

Yoga classes embrace postures, breathing, relaxation and meditation which are also discussed and the many benefits that Yoga brings to us.

Yoga Classes in Forest Row

I teach in Forest Row at the Community Centre. I offer both day and evening classes for all abilities, from the complete beginner, to intermediate and more advanced classes. The classes are suitable for all age groups. Description of the classes and full details are given on each page.

My Personal Style

Over the years I have developed my own style of teaching Yoga. No two classes are exactly the same. My own love of Yoga, personal practice and teaching has always embraced a flow in the style and format of how I teach each class.

Vinyasa is the term used to describe flow. Literally it means one breath, one movement and is a flowing movement sequence co-ordinated with rhythmic breathing, as we see in classic practices such as Sun Salutation.  I love the challenge, adaption, fluidity and grace that flow brings as well as precision and mindfulness.

Yoga is not mechanical, it is about working with our own energy (life force). Initially we develop a greater sense of body/breath/mind awareness, we become more in touch with ourselves. With practice Yoga teaches us how to manage our own energy, finding that personal balance in life between activity and relaxation which in turn helps us deal with the buoyancy life presents to us.

Within the classes we undertake postures, breathing practices, relaxation and meditation. Each discussed briefly on the page Why Yoga.

The format for all my classes is the same. We start with 10 minutes in savasana (corpse position) for centering, breathing practice and relaxation. We then warm up with a range of simple mini postures, which are undertaken on the back and then we progress into the main practice. The classes finish with relaxation or meditation and breathing practices.

The classes are small, relaxing and friendly.

Personal & Small Group Tuition

These sessions are personalised to suit the needs of the individual, couple or group taught at a time to suit you in the comfort of your own home for as many sessions as required. They are undertaken for many different reasons and embrace many aspects of Yoga practice.

Over the years I have taught a wide range of needs within the realms of personal & small group tuition:~

Yoga Therapy

Chair Yoga

Pregnancy /Postnatal

Restorative Yoga

Sports Specifics

Offices / Schools / Yoga for Specialised Groups

Open & Summer Classes

During half term week and over the summer period I offer drop in classes, pay as you come, which you are very welcome to join. However, they are not suitable for complete beginners.

Preparing for & After Childbirth

Pregnant women are very welcome to join classes at 14 weeks and the practices are modified for pregnancy from the beginning. Yoga has so much to offer pregnant women, specifically during this period, 'a time for yourself'. I do not offer a specific class for pregnant women, this could be undertaken as a small group.

Yoga is also very helpful for after Childbirth particularly to replenish and restore energy.

Frequently Asked Questions

This simply covers a range of questions that are frequently asked but please feel free to email or phone me if you have others.

Your Contributions

I have asked students if they wish, to contribute to this page. The premise I suggested was, 'why do you practice Yoga, what do you enjoy and the benefits you derive. Or perhaps a time in your life when Yoga has been particularly helpful to you'.

Your answers and thoughts are many and various. Thank you.

Facial Yoga

A fun, relaxing, enjoyable programme for everyday living, to rejuvenate and tone the face and neck. Two sessions teaches you how to exercise neglected muscles, quite simply a natural facelift and once learnt takes about 10 minutes to do. It can be adapted to suit individual needs. I offer tuition personally, in pairs or a small group at a time and venue to suit you. Try the simple exercises on the page.

Food & Nutritional Therapy

Clients consult with me for Nutritional Therapy for many different reasons, at times of stress, low energy, candidiasis, PMS, high/low blood pressure, high cholestrol, weight loss as a few examples. Food choices are all too frequently not supportive to imbalances/disease and simple changes can make such a difference in reflecting optimum health and well being. In fact they can be life changing!

I treat each client and case individually and my approach to making dietary changes is gradual, the body needs time to adapt and one needs to start incorporating change into daily life.

Products

This page covers audio tapes, mats and happy monk stools, which my husband hand makes. The audio tapes cover practices suitable for the beginning student, intermediates and advanced. They are a great way to continue with your practice between classes. The tapes also cover more specific practices, breathing, relaxation and meditation.

Equipment for your practice is also very important and can make such a difference. I have always practiced on a foam mat with a non slip mat on top. This allows comfort for a multitude of different practices. The happy monk stool is also an essential part of my practice. It gives me the support I need and allows me to undertake practices in a seated position and sit for pranayama and meditation in complete comfort and stillness.

Booking Form & Brochure Request

You can book for a class or request a brochure on line, however I regret I do not offer credit card facilities, a cheque is required.
